Music on the Wrong Spotify Artist Profile? How to Fix the Mix-Up
Oct 07, 2026By Tushar Mathur · Updated October 2, 2026
If music is attached to the wrong Spotify artist profile, report the mismatch in Spotify for Artists and contact the distributor that delivered the release. Spotify can correct its catalog display, while the distributor can repair the artist mapping at the delivery source and address the same problem on other services.
Do not immediately delete and re-upload the release. First identify which of the three common mix-ups you have, collect the correct links and identifiers, and send one precise report.
Fastest route: use Spotify for Artists’ content mismatch form. Include the incorrect release, the profile where it appears, and the correct artist profile. Spotify says these fixes are usually completed within a few days.
Which wrong-profile problem do you have?
| Situation | First action | Who else to contact |
|---|---|---|
| Your release is on another artist’s profile | Report the release and provide your correct artist profile | Your label or distributor |
| Another artist’s release is on your profile | Report that the release does not belong to your artist | Spotify support if the form fails |
| Your catalog is split across two profiles | List every affected release and identify the one profile that should own them | Your label or distributor for source mapping |
A wrong profile is usually a catalog-mapping problem, not an artist-name edit. Two artists can legitimately share a name. The fix is to make sure each release is delivered with the correct Spotify artist ID or artist link, rather than relying on the artist name alone.
What should you collect before reporting the mismatch?
A complete evidence packet reduces back-and-forth. Gather:
- the Spotify link or URI for the incorrect release;
- the Spotify link or URI for the wrong artist profile;
- the correct Spotify artist profile link or URI;
- the release title, release date, UPC and affected track ISRCs;
- your distributor or label name and its support-ticket number;
- screenshots showing the mismatch;
- for a split catalog, a list of every release that needs moving.
Your distributor dashboard usually contains the UPC and ISRC data. If the problem also affects Apple Music, YouTube Music or other stores, list those separately in the distributor ticket. A Spotify report only fixes Spotify.
How to fix music that is already live on the wrong Spotify profile
- Open the content mismatch form. Spotify’s current mixed-up music guidance directs artists to report the problem through Spotify for Artists.
- Select the correct situation. Explain whether your release is elsewhere, someone else’s music is on your profile, or your catalog is split.
- Paste exact links. Do not rely only on artist names, especially when names are shared.
- Contact your distributor. Ask it to correct the artist mapping and confirm the correct Spotify artist URI for future deliveries.
- Keep the release live while the teams investigate. Avoid a takedown unless your distributor specifically recommends it. An unnecessary re-upload can create a new version and complicate links, playlists and release history.
- Verify the repair. Check the release page, your profile catalog and Spotify for Artists. If the catalog was split, confirm every listed release rather than checking only the newest one.
If you do not yet have Spotify for Artists access, request access to the correct profile or contact Spotify support through the help page. Fans who notice a mismatch can also report it to Customer Service, but the artist or distributor can usually provide stronger catalog evidence.
How to catch a wrong artist profile before release day
After your distributor sends a release, Spotify says it can take around 48 hours to appear under Music → Upcoming in Spotify for Artists. Use that window to check the artist mapping, title, artwork, release date and track list.
If an upcoming release does not belong to you, open its menu and choose Report incorrect release. Spotify advises notifying your label or distributor as well because a content mismatch often appears across multiple services.
If your own release is missing from Upcoming after the delivery window, ask your distributor whether it was sent to the correct artist profile. Featured appearances, track-level-only credits and some compilations may not appear in Upcoming, so confirm the credit type before assuming the mapping failed.
Can Artist Profile Protection prevent future mix-ups?
Spotify introduced Artist Profile Protection as an optional, limited beta in 2026. Eligible artists can receive a notification when music is delivered with their name attached and can remove themselves from a misattributed release before or after delivery.
Some artists in the beta also have a “Block releases” setting that requires approval before a release can go live with their artist profile attached. Spotify says access is limited, and warns that legitimate releases can be delayed if no one acts. If the setting is available to you, assign an Admin or Editor to monitor notifications around every delivery.
If you do not see the feature, that does not prevent you from reporting a mismatch. Continue using Upcoming, the content mismatch form and your distributor’s support route.
How to prevent the next wrong-profile delivery
- Save your Spotify artist URI. Give the exact identifier to your distributor instead of relying only on a stage name.
- Use consistent metadata. Keep artist spelling, primary/featured roles and collaborator credits consistent across the release.
- Check every delivery in Upcoming. Do this after the distributor confirms delivery and before release day.
- Confirm collaborator mappings. Ask featured artists for their exact profile links or URIs.
- Keep a release sheet. Store the UPC, ISRCs, artist IDs, delivery date and distributor ticket for each release.
- Monitor common-name profiles. Artists with shared or common names should inspect Upcoming and profile notifications more closely.
Our guide to music metadata explains why accurate identifiers and credits matter beyond one platform. For dashboard access and catalog checks, see the Spotify for Artists guide.
Distributor support message template
Subject: Correct Spotify artist mapping for [release title]
My release “[title]” (UPC: [UPC], ISRC: [ISRC]) is linked to the wrong Spotify artist profile.
Incorrect release/profile: [Spotify links]
Correct artist profile: [Spotify artist link/URI]
Release date: [date]
Please correct the artist mapping at the delivery source and confirm whether the mismatch affects any other services. My Spotify content-mismatch report reference is [reference, if available].
Keep the message factual. Do not accuse the other artist unless you have evidence of impersonation or unauthorized uploading; many mismatches are ordinary metadata or name-collision errors.
Wrong Spotify artist profile questions
How long does Spotify take to fix mixed-up music?
Spotify says it usually emails artists within a few days after a content mismatch is reported. Complex or multi-release catalog problems may require more information.
Should I delete and re-upload the release?
Usually, report the mapping problem first and follow your distributor’s instructions. A takedown and re-upload can create additional versions and should not be the automatic first step.
Will Spotify’s fix correct Apple Music and other platforms?
No. Spotify’s process fixes Spotify. Contact the distributor or label to correct delivery mappings across other services.
Can I move a release myself in Spotify for Artists?
You can report the mismatch, but catalog mapping is handled by Spotify and the delivering label or distributor. Artist Profile Protection offers extra control only to artists included in its limited beta.
What if another artist has the same name?
Spotify can have multiple artists with the same name. Your artist name alone is not enough to identify the correct profile, so use your Spotify artist link or URI and release identifiers when contacting your distributor. Spotify also recommends giving distributors your artist link or URI when delivering music to help prevent mix-ups.
Fix the profile before promoting the release
Pause promotional links until the release points to the correct profile. Otherwise, listeners may follow the wrong artist, miss the rest of your catalog or receive confusing recommendations.
Once the mapping is correct and your profile is ready, explore GreaseRelease’s music submission options. Promotion works best when every click lands on the artist and catalog the listener intended to find.
