How to Get a YouTube Official Artist Channel
Oct 21, 2026By Tushar Mathur
You do not apply for a YouTube Official Artist Channel through a public YouTube form. If you qualify, your label, distributor or another approved Music Service Partner requests it for you. The channel you want upgraded must represent one artist or band and focus on that artist’s music.
This guide explains the current eligibility rules, what to prepare, how the request works and what to check after your channels are consolidated.
What is a YouTube Official Artist Channel?
An Official Artist Channel, commonly shortened to OAC, is the artist-focused version of a YouTube channel. YouTube uses it to bring an artist’s subscribers and music content together, including content associated with an artist-owned channel and auto-generated music delivery.
Eligible OACs can access artist-specific presentation and analytics features. YouTube says Analytics for Artists can show performance across places where the music appears, including the artist channel, art tracks and other channels that use the music. An OAC does not transfer copyright ownership, replace your distributor or automatically enroll you in every monetization program.
Topic channel, regular channel and OAC
| Channel type | Who creates or controls it | Main purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Artist-owned channel | The artist or their team | Upload videos, Shorts, posts and live streams; manage branding and community. |
| Topic channel | Auto-generated by YouTube | Hosts art tracks and other delivered music associated with the artist. |
| Official Artist Channel | The artist manages the upgraded channel; YouTube consolidates eligible artist content and audience signals. | Provides one official artist destination and access to artist tools. |
YouTube Official Artist Channel requirements
According to YouTube’s current OAC eligibility page, you must:
- own and operate one YouTube channel for a single artist or band;
- keep that channel focused on the artist’s music;
- have at least one official music release on YouTube delivered by a music distributor or label; and
- comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines, Terms of Service and copyright policies.
YouTube also requires at least one qualifying partner relationship. That can include working with a YouTube Partner Manager, being in the YouTube Partner Program, belonging to a label network that works with a Partner Manager, or distributing through a music partner listed in YouTube’s Services Directory.
YouTube recommends having at least one public video uploaded to the artist-owned channel in addition to the official release. A channel with no public uploads may be rejected or require more verification.
What to prepare before requesting an OAC
- Choose the artist-owned channel. It should be the channel you intend to maintain long term. Avoid using a personal variety channel that mixes unrelated creators or topics.
- Make the artist identity consistent. Match the public artist name, profile image, banner, description and official links with the identity attached to the distributed release.
- Publish at least one music-focused video. This is separate from the art track delivered by your distributor.
- Confirm that an official release is live on YouTube Music. If the first release has just arrived, allow the distributor’s systems time to recognize it.
- Find your channel identifiers. Save the URL or channel ID for the artist-owned channel and the YouTube Music artist or Topic channel.
- Resolve wrong-artist mapping first. If the release is attached to another artist with the same name, ask the distributor to correct the artist separation before requesting consolidation.
- Check channel health. Active policy strikes or content with limited features can stop or reverse OAC status.

How to request a YouTube Official Artist Channel
- Open your label or distributor’s OAC process. Search its current help center for “Official Artist Channel.” The steps and account eligibility can change.
- Select the correct artist. Use the artist whose delivered release appears on YouTube Music.
- Provide the artist-owned channel. Double-check the URL or channel ID. Do not submit another artist’s Topic channel as the channel you control.
- Submit through the partner. The partner sends the request to YouTube. There is no general public application form that bypasses this relationship.
- Wait for review and monitor email. Processing time varies. Avoid sending conflicting requests through several partners at once.
Distributor support differs. For example, DistroKid currently provides an OAC request flow and advises new artists to wait a few days after their first YouTube release goes live if the artist is not yet available in its selector. CD Baby says it stopped processing new OAC requests in March 2025. Check your own partner rather than assuming every distributor offers the same route.
What happens after OAC approval?
Your Official Artist Channel becomes the main artist destination. YouTube can present consolidated music and video sections, carry relevant subscriptions into the OAC and provide Analytics for Artists in YouTube Studio.
After approval:
- review the channel name, image, banner, biography and links;
- check the Releases and Music videos sections for missing or incorrect items;
- organize videos and playlists for a new visitor;
- confirm team permissions instead of sharing account passwords;
- review Analytics for Artists across official and other-channel activity; and
- keep publishing videos and Shorts around each release.

Why an Official Artist Channel request may fail
The artist does not appear in the distributor’s selector
The release may be too new, not delivered to YouTube Music, or attached to a different artist profile. Wait for delivery to complete, then verify the YouTube Music artist identity with your distributor.
The wrong channels are being combined
Stop and contact the requesting partner. Supply the channel IDs and release identifiers clearly. Artist-name collisions should be fixed before consolidation.
The owned channel contains unrelated content
YouTube’s criteria specify one artist or band and a channel focused on that music. Move unrelated work to an appropriate channel and make the artist identity clear.
The distributor does not offer OAC requests
YouTube tells artists without a supporting label or distributor to work with a Music Service Partner that can request an OAC. Review the official Services Directory and any contractual implications before moving catalog or paying for a new service.
The channel has a policy issue
Resolve active Community Guidelines, copyright and limited-feature issues through YouTube’s proper process. YouTube says an OAC can revert to a standard channel while disqualifying issues are active.
Frequently asked questions
How many subscribers do I need for a YouTube Official Artist Channel?
YouTube’s published OAC eligibility criteria do not list a general subscriber minimum. You still need the required artist channel, official distributed release, policy compliance and qualifying partner relationship.
Can I request an Official Artist Channel myself?
The request must go through a label, distributor, YouTube Partner Manager or eligible Music Service Partner. You prepare and control the artist channel, but the partner submits the OAC request.
Is an Official Artist Channel the same as YouTube verification?
No. OAC status is a music-specific channel program. General channel verification and the YouTube Partner Program have separate purposes and requirements.
Does an OAC automatically monetize my music?
No. OAC status can provide artist tools and consolidated analytics, but monetization depends on separate rights, distributor arrangements, Content ID participation and YouTube program eligibility.
Can I change distributors after getting an OAC?
Changing distributors does not automatically erase an OAC, but catalog delivery and rights administration can be affected. Coordinate identifiers, takedowns and redelivery carefully to avoid gaps or duplicates.
Build the channel before the badge
An OAC is most useful when the channel already gives fans a reason to stay. Prepare a consistent artist identity, publish at least one public video, deliver the release correctly and request the upgrade through a partner that currently supports it. Then use the consolidated channel as part of a broader YouTube music release strategy.
