What Happened to Spotify Clips? Video Options for Artists

Spotify stopped accepting new artist Clips on June 17, 2026. Existing Clips remain available, while eligible artists can now upload full-length music videos through Spotify for Artists. Short videos for eligible Countdown Pages continue under the name countdown videos.

That means an old tutorial telling you to click “Upload Clip” may send you looking for a control that no longer exists. Here is how to choose the right format and work out whether you have access.

What happened to Spotify Clips?

Spotify changed its artist-video workflow rather than removing all video from artist profiles. Its current Clips help page confirms the upload cutoff and says previously uploaded Clips will appear in the artist profile’s Video tab as that tab rolls out.

For a release plan, the important distinction is between keeping an existing Clip and creating a new video asset. You do not need to replace an old Clip simply because the upload tool changed. But you should choose a supported destination before filming something new.

Which Spotify video format should you use now?

Choose the format by the job you want it to do: show a performance, build anticipation before release, or add a visual loop while the song plays.

A full performance or official music video

Full-length video is the route for an official music video, live performance, studio session or cover. Direct uploading is available to artists in the beta; label and distributor delivery also continues.

Spotify’s video rollout announcement says visualizers, lyric videos, multi-song concerts and videos without music are not currently supported for this route. A polished lyric video is therefore not automatically an eligible full-length upload.

A short teaser before an eligible release

Use a countdown video on an eligible Countdown Page. These are vertical videos with audio, longer than three seconds and shorter than 30 seconds. They are suited to a quick glimpse of the recording session or the story behind the release.

The countdown-video documentation says you add them while creating or editing the page. Once the release goes live, the Countdown Page and its associated videos are no longer available on Spotify. Plan them as pre-release material, not a permanent video library.

A looping visual attached to a track

Use Canvas for a three-to-eight-second vertical loop in the mobile Now Playing view. It is a different format from Clips and full-length video.

Spotify’s Canvas instructions explain the artist-credit and Admin or Editor requirements. On the web, the route is Music → select the track → Add Canvas. Check the track’s eligibility and your team access before troubleshooting the file itself.

How do you upload full-length videos?

If you have beta access and an Admin or Editor role on the artist or label team, use Spotify for Artists on desktop:

1. Open Video & Visuals and select Upload Video.
2. Choose the file and link the appropriate song.
3. Complete the music information and video details, then submit.

The current upload requirements call for a music-first, 16:9 landscape video: longer than 30 seconds, shorter than 20 minutes, under 50 GB and at least 1920 × 1080 pixels. Use that official page to check the requirements again before exporting.

Spotify also says it creates short previews from uploaded videos. Those previews do not restore the old manual Clips upload workflow.

Why can’t I see the video upload button?

Missing beta access and a failed upload are different problems. Start with the screen you can actually reach:

• You are following an old Clips tutorial: stop looking for Upload Clip. Follow the current video route instead.
• You cannot see Upload Video: check desktop access and your team role. If access has not reached your artist, use the waitlist linked in Spotify’s official upload guide.
• You submitted a file but it is not live: read the processing status and any error shown in Video & Visuals. Spotify sends a notification when the video is live.

Take a screenshot of the relevant screen before contacting support. Include your artist-profile link and describe whether the control is missing or a submitted file has an error. That keeps an access question from turning into an unnecessary round of re-exporting video.

Make a video plan around the access you have

Before commissioning a special Spotify edit, write down three things: the asset you already own, the feature you can use today and the action you want a listener to take.

Example: imagine you have filmed one complete studio performance in landscape. If your account has full-length video access, check that master against the upload requirements. Separately, identify a short moment that could work as a vertical teaser for an eligible Countdown Page, and a visually clear loop for Canvas.

These should be separate edits. A performance needs enough time to make musical sense; a teaser should create interest quickly; a loop needs a clean start and finish. Check the framing before assuming one crop will suit all three.

Can I still upload a new Spotify Clip?

No. New artist Clips uploads ended on June 17, 2026. Choose a currently supported artist-video format instead.

Were my existing Clips deleted?

Spotify says existing Clips remain available. The transition to the Video tab is gradual, so the profile interface may not look identical for every artist.

Are countdown videos the same as Canvas?

No. Countdown videos support an eligible upcoming release through its Countdown Page. Canvas is the short visual loop associated with an individual track during playback.

Should I remake a lyric video as a full-length upload?

Check the supported content types first. The current direct-upload route excludes lyric videos; changing the aspect ratio or file name does not turn one into a performance or official music video. Keep that asset for a suitable destination instead of spending time on an export that will not fit.
